Sia Partners to support Tunisia's smart grid transformation for next four years

Sia Partners has been a major consulting partner of STEG since 2018, supporting the early stages and framing of STEG's smart metering deployment. Over the next few years, STEG plans to deploy an initial phase of smart metering infrastructure for over 450,000 customers, transform its customer care and billing system, and implement a GIS (geographic information system). This global transformation program is financed by the French Development Agency (AFD) at €120 million. This first phase will pave the way for a full-scale smart metering rollout across Tunsia.

New digital tools and the use of data will revolutionize the way STEG carries out its operations, and its performance. They will enhance its ability to connect renewable production to the grid. These developments will lead to a new, more digital and innovative work organization. Change management and team training will be the key to success for this program.

This global transformation is a major step in the modernization of the energy market and networks of Tunisia, and a key lever to accelerate the energy transition in the country.

STEG's Smart Grid project is also an opportunity to strengthen its positioning and international development, making STEG a reference in Africa. The development of the skills and technologies supported by this project will contribute to STEG's influence, and enable the company to export this know-how across the region, contributing to the emergence of a Tunisian Smart Grid sector capable of setting a standard.
